You Are Not Alone

  • 20 percent of Americans, 48 million, report some degree of hearing loss.
  • At age 65, one out of three people suffer a hearing loss
  • Hearing loss is the third most common physical condition after arthritis and heart disease.
  • Varying from mild to profound, gradual hearing loss can affect people of all ages. Hearing loss can be a sudden or gradual. "Depending on the cause, it can be mild or severe, temporary or permanent".
  • In older people unfortunately, a hearing loss can be often mistaken with, confused or even complicate, such conditions as dementia.
For most, the onset and progression of a hearing loss usually extends over some time

  • In adults, the most likely causes of hearing loss are noise and aging.
  • Presbycusis, an age-related hearing loss - is a change in the inner ear that happens as you get older and causes a slow but steady hearing loss. The loss may be mild or severe, and it is always permanent.
